General Psychology Dr. Williams In Tori DeAngelis article â€Å"PTSD Treatments Grow in Evidence, Effectiveness† she argues that several psychological interventions help to significantly reduce post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms. But after reading the article an impression that its content is somehow contradictory to the title, as its main statement may be evaluated as â€Å"More PTSD treatments are developed and practiced, though all of them still lack reliable evidence and their consequences are not fully predictable†. In the article DeAngelis states that recent destructive events (ie war in Iraq) enabled researches to learn more about PTSD and its treatment. Particularly in November 2008 the International Society for†¦show more content†¦The use of new anti-PTSD drugs and treatments, particularly the ones mentioned in the report’s conclusion, should be possible only after finish of their careful and independent studies in laboratory conditions. The start of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs to use prolonged-exposure therapy and cognitive-processing therapy long before the profound investigations on their efficiency have been made is reprehensible and disappointing fact. It’s a good luck that the mentioned forms of therapy demonstrate satisfying results, but another experiment may be less lucky. In the article, the IoM’s report is criticized for the failure to address the difficulties for conducting PTSD investigations, the failure to take into account existing reviews and guidelines conducted by other independent authorized bodies; the difference between the information in sources and the conclusion of the report; conclusions contradictory to other reviews already done in the field. Other researchers experiment with treatments to increase their effectiveness. The virtual reality simulators â€Å"might be good for people who are too avoidant to stand exposure therapy, because it puts them right there†.
